Mini Tiramisu Jar

A 125ml jar of tiramisu, with a layer of espresso soaked pan di spagna, and a layer of mascarpone and cognac cream all topped with Dutch process black cocoa powder. Tiramisu (translating to pick me up/ lift me up) is a trifle originating in Treviso Italy in the late 1960s. Early versions of the Tiramisu are more closely related to a custard than a cake where more modern versions take on the appearance of a layered cake. Modern versions of the trifle consist of a mascarpone cream, usually with a liqeur, layered with coffee soaked savoiardi (ladyfingers biscuits) all topped with cocoa powder. Since it's creation the Tiramisu has become widely popular throughout Europe and the rest of the world, quickly becoming one of the most recognizable desserts worldwide.

A dense and rich butter cake with a soft (but still dense) interior and a crunchy crust. The Boterkoek is a Dutch pastry originating in the 1930s. It's main ingredient is butter which gives its characteristic rich buttery flavour. Appearing to be a "pastry for the people", the Boterkoek was not usually found in tea rooms, patisseries, or bakeries, but instead was a common pastry served at general stores as it's denseness was more popular among the hardworking folk such as fishermen, harbourworkers, and farmers. The pastry was commonly eaten with a strong coffee which would help cut the greasyness of the butter creating a delicious pairing.
